Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Under some circumstances, kerning is bad (or just inexistent) in oocalc. It happens when a cell is set to "automatically adjust" (word wrap), or while you're editing it (F2 in a cell). Kerning works properly otherwise. I'll see if I can attach an image for an example.

This might be related to bug #280019, and if that's so, then I'm confirming (as asked in that bug) that it does happens with the PPA packages of OpenOffice. In particular, I'm using version 1:3.1.0-5ubuntu1~hardy1 I've got from that repository.

Do you still have this issue with the new version in Ubuntu 9.04 with the ppa at https://launchpad.net/~openoffice-pkgs/+archive/ppa or Ubuntu Karmic?

Sorry, I can't verify it on the newest packages from that PPA because I'm running Hardy. It's easy to verify if the problem is there though:

1. Start OpenOffice.org Calc
2. Enter a line of text into a random cell of columns A or B. This line of text is good enough.
3. After entering the line of text, press Enter to go to the next cell, then Up to go back to the cell you've just written to.
4. Enlarge the view with Ctrl+mouse wheel up until it's large enough. It's much easier to notice with large text.
5. Press F2 to edit the cell. Notice the bad kerning while editing? Press Esc to stop editing, and it'll be alright again. Alternatively, go Format+Cells... and check Wrap text automatically for a permanently bad kerning in the cell.

It appears this is already fixed in 3.1.1 that is in Jaunty ppa and karmic, or at least I can't reproduce the problem and the fonts look fine for me.

I hope this is the right place to upload this. It's a screenshot of kerning problems in the OOO UI. All Ooo programs are affected.

I was directed to upload the screenshot by Chris: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.5/+bug/67226

... however was asked not to post it in that ticket.

Stef,

You are running under KDE is that correct? I can't reproduce this issue under Gnome.
