Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org-impress

1) lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 11.04
Release: 11.04

2) apt-cache policy libreoffice-impress
libreoffice-impress:
  Installed: 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu5
  Candidate: 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu5
  Version table:
 *** 1:3.3.2-1ubuntu5 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty-updates/main i386 Packages
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty-proposed/main i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     1:3.3.2-1ubuntu4 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages

3) What is expected to happen in LibreOffice Impress via the Terminal:

cd ~/Desktop && wget https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/316023/+attachment/2139278/+files/pictures.tar.bz2 && file-roller -h pictures.tar.bz2 && cd pictures && loimpress -nologo

Create button -> View -> Master -> Slide Master -> New Master -> click Default master slide -> secondary click slide -> Slide -> Set Background Picture for Slide... -> home-main.png -> OK button -> click Default 1 master slide -> secondary click slide -> Slide -> Set Background Picture for Slide... -> home-main.png -> OK button -> click Default 2 master slide -> secondary click slide -> Slide -> Set Background Picture for Slide... -> logo.png -> OK button -> click Default 3 master slide -> secondary click slide -> Slide -> Set Background Picture for Slide... -> logo.png -> OK button -> File -> Save As... -> Name: example -> File type ODF Presentation odp -> Save button -> File -> Close -> re-open -> View -> Master -> Slide Master and one sees the Master slide images as inserted before one closed the file.

4) What happens instead is notice home-main.png has been inserted into Default 2 and Default 3 Master slides.

WORKAROUND: Save file as PPT.

Original Reporter Comments: seems as if bug #201005 was not fixed properly.

Ok i can confirm this and can some remarks here:

- it happens also with the 3.2.0 directly from the oo.org website (the archive with the deb files, amd64 btw.)
- it also has happened (with an older version, don't know which one) under windows

So i think this is an upstream issue (obviously)

Kind regards

I can confirm this too, using LibreOffice 3.3.0 under Ubuntu 10.10.

But there's a way to partially solve this:
1 - Make the presentation
2 - Save as PPT;
3 - Close Impress;
4 - Open the PPT presentation;
5 - Save as ODP;
6 - Open the ODP presentation.

It works to me. And I suppose that process must be repeated each time when you change or add a new background.

btw, the workaround does not seem reliable to me.

the previous way OOo 2.n of changing the master slide background importing bitmap images still applies on OOo3/LO3.n. This is not a workaround.

Hadmut Danisch, please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 316023
When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

@Christopher:

Sorry to say that, but it does not make any sense to perform an apport-collect two and a half years after reporting the bug.

Furthermore, I cannot do this anymore since I do not have the machine where this particular bug appeared anymore, I am not working in this office anymore.

Even if I had access, the company policy would not allow to send such reports out of this office. In some cases there's good reason for using apport-bug.

What exactly would you need apport-collect information for, what you could not find on any other ubuntu machine? All of my private machines have been reinstalled meanwhile and I do not see which sort of information my machines could deliver which any other ubuntu machine couldn't.

[This is an automated message.]
There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.

This bug was filed before the changes to Bugzilla on 2011-10-16. Thus it
started right out as NEW without ever being explicitly confirmed. The bug is
changed to state NEEDINFO for this reason. To move this bug from NEEDINFO back
to NEW please check if the bug still persists with the 3.5.0 beta1 or beta2 prereleases.
Details on how to test the 3.5.0 beta1 can be found at:

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed in the latest development version of Ubuntu - Precise Pangolin.

This is a significant bug in Ubuntu. If you need a fix for the bug in previous versions of Ubuntu, please do steps 1 and 2 of the SRU Procedure [1] to bring the need to a developer's attention.
