Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

System: Ubuntu 8.04.1, x86_64

Try this in OpenOffice 2.4: go to Tools / Options / Java. Make sure "Use a Java runtime environment" is checked. Click the Add button to add a JVM.

I have OpenJDK Java 6 as well as Sun JDK 6 installed. OpenOffice does not recognise these as a valid JVM. Trying to add them gives an error message: "The folder you selected does not contain a Java runtime environment. Please select a different folder."

I tried several directories:

/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.06
/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.06/jre
/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk
/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre

None of them is recognised by OpenOffice.

For me in Intrepid, Add... fails, but OOo already has /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/ listed (at least after I cancelled Add... for the first time; I don't think it was there to start with).

For me it was empty when I first went to the option page but after a couple seconds it showed up, I think it might take it a few seconds to find the path to the proper Java.

Do you still have this problem with openoffice.org 1:2.4.1-11ubuntu2 in Ubuntu 8.10?

Why was this set to "incomplete"? The information I gave is complete and the bug is easily reproducible with the provided information.

It was set because I believe this bug is already fixed in 8.10 and Colin probably hit the Add button before it had time to show up, as when I went to the option it took several seconds to show up.

Did you test it yourself? I just tested it on two VirtualBox installations of Ubuntu 8.10 beta:

32-bit Ubuntu 8.10 beta with all the latest updates
OpenOffice version: 1:2.4.1-11ubuntu2
Sun Java version: 6-07-4ubuntu2
OpenJDK Java version: 6b12-0ubuntu1

64-bit Ubuntu 8.10 beta with all the latest updates
OpenOffice version: 1:2.4.1-11ubuntu2
Sun Java version: 6-07-4ubuntu2
OpenJDK Java version: 6b12-0ubuntu1

The problem still happens in both of these, and it's easy to reproduce with the steps that I described above.

Please do not set a bug on "incomplete" if you didn't test it yourself and if you are not sure that the problem is fixed. The status "incomplete" should only be used if there isn't enough information provided to be able to reproduce the bug, which is not the case here.

If there is anything I can do to help with this (for example, provide more information that might be useful to debug this) then please contact me.

I think that:

Jaspers description of the bug matches the bug 249352

Chris description applies after the openoffice.org meta package is installed, which is a work around (in my opinion, others seem to think this is a solution) for bug 249352.

At least thats the way things worked for me with ubuntu 8.4.
