Openoffice writer freezes whenever i "save as" a document

I can confirm that I also get this behaviour, but I haven't been able to trace it in any way.

Description: Ubuntu 8.04
Release: 8.04
Uname: 2.6.24-19-generic

Arch is 64bit.

I am very happy to help track down the bug, but I am not sure what to do. If you can suggest a method, I'd love to do so. Behaviour I see is:

Open Openoffice-writer and click file>save as. The application locks, and if I change windows, and back to writer, the window contents are not redrawn. The app stays locked permanently.

The freeze also happens upon "new window" opening, for example, it freezes also i try to insert picture from file [check attached screen shot]
