That's the output from OpenOffice on the latest updates of hardy heron. It gets as far as the splash screen and then quits.

Kindly provide the following information :
1) When is this error generated -
    a) while opening a 'New' file or
    b) starting/booting Ubuntu or
    c) Opening a new file using Open Office?
2) What is the version of the Java(JRE) in your system?
3) How are you running OpenOffice - via the command prompt or by clicking on the file?

This will greatly help us in tracking down your problem. Feel free to continue to report any other bugs you may find.

#1 & #3 : openoffice.org never gets past the splash screen. This occurs when running it from the Kmenu, or from the shell. That, I guess, would be when making a new file.

#3 Even when running it with an explicit filename from the shell (e.g. soffice foo.ods) the same thing happens.

#2: How would I go about identifying the version of the JRE?
from dpkg -s openoffice.org-java-common, I get version 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu1
