Try removing ~/.openoffice.org2 and see if that helps. I am running 2.4.1~rc2-1ubuntu1 just fine here on another amd64 machine. If it doesn't make certain your system is fully up to date with hardy-proposed then try again.

Thanks,

Chris Cheney

Hi Chris, I downgraded openoffice to the 2.4.0 version, because I need oowriter these days. I will retray the installation days later.

I confirm that removing ~/.openoffice.org2 folder solve the problem. But, Chris, do you think that this problem is fixed ?? It should be marked as a bug if some users should remove manually the ~/.openoffice.org2 folder !!! no ??

Yes there is definitely a bug somewhere but what it is seems to be somewhat hard to track down since it appears to be due to a configuration option in the users dotdir causing the problem. If it stops working for you again then please let me know and I can get you to send me a copy of your .openoffice.org2 dir to examine more closely.

Thanks,

Chris

Hi all.

I using a Compaq Presario C708LA with Hardy i386 and I reproduced your problem and this is the result:

m0rdk@marlon-laptop:~$ oowriter test.odt
javaldx: Could not find a Java Runtime Environment!
m0rdk@marlon-laptop:~$

In this moment, openoffice open the document (test.odt) and there are no problems. So, the bug maintains in 64bits.

Bye.
