OpenOffice Writer Export PDF doesn't support long hyphens

I recently wrote a report in OpenOffice.org 's writer and then exported it to PDF so it could be read platform-independently. however already my name was "incorrect" (not hyphened) and in the text this reappeared a couple of times. there are two different hyphens, the regular one "-" that is printed correctly to pdf and the "long hyphen" which is the problem here. I attached a screenshot with the document on the left and the resulting pdf on the right (neutron activation of silver, an experiment I had to carry out...anyway!).

let me know if there's something you need me to do or so in order to make this report more usable. thank you in advance.

I noticed the same problem, and I add that it happens also for the " (quote character) that is automatically transformed into a more round character (I don't know the exact word for that) that isn't correctly displayed in the .pdf version. I also had problems to print the pdf, as when this problem happened, other characters too were wrong in print. I had no problems printing pdfs made by ooo without those characters.

Try using a different font than Times. (eg: FreeSerif)

This could be a known issue in OO.o, see this bug:

If the change of font works, then I will mark the OO.o bug report as connected to this one.

This bug should be fixed with the 2.3.1 release of openoffice which is available in Hardy repositories. Can someone test it?
