I experienced the same problem.
In my experience, it was due to a lack of installed packages along with open office package.
With the advice of Mosi Lager in mind (i.e uninstalling and re-install everything related to OOo), I typed OpenOffice in Adept search engine.
I paid attention especially to one package that was indicated as non-installed but that was bearing the Kubuntu official blue icon :
openoffice.org_2.2.0-1ubuntu3_i386.deb (28 kb)
Choosing to install this packages led to the concomittant installation of the following packages (THAT WERE NOT INSTALLED BY DEFAULT ):
libhsqldb-java_1.8.0.7-1ubuntu2_all.deb libmdbtools_0.5.99.0.6pre1.0.20051109-3.1_i386.deb libservlet2.3-java_4.0-8ubuntu3_all.deb openoffice.org_2.2.0-1ubuntu3_i386.deb openoffice.org-base_2.2.0-1ubuntu3_i386.deb openoffice.org-filter-mobiledev_2.2.0-1ubuntu3_all.deb
After that, launching bibus and coupling it to OOo went without any crash.
Therefore, this bug is due to a bad-dependencies resolving when OpenOffice is installed during the FIRST INSTALLATION OF THE SYSTEM I guess.
