Java 8 adoption is faster than expected (at least for me). More than one important project is switching to it as a minimum requirement during the next months. A couple of examples: - EclipseLink 2.7.0: https://www.eclipse.org/eclipselink/ - current Spring Integration master: https://github.com/spring-projects/spring-integration/blob/master/build.gradle (see source and target compatibility for project spring-integration-core).
It's quite surprising, though, that there's no official way to install it on the current Ubuntu LTS version.
