Bug Description

Binary package hint: open-iscsi

Trying to upgrade ubuntu from 10.04.2 to 10.10 on a machine with iSCSI-root.

When dpkg reconfigures open-iscsi, it logs out of all iscsi-targets, root disapears and the machine hang. (I can see on the iSCSI-server that there are no initiators logged in to this target any longer)

Debian has solved this by letting the open-iscsi init.d script check if initramfs is configured for iscsi, and if true, not logging out.

http://osdir.com/ml/debian-bugs-dist/2010-02/msg00064.html

I tried patching the init.d-script in ubuntu the same way, but it didn't help. (This is as far as my understanding of iSCSI and dpkg trigger scripts goes...)

Some more research:

This seems similar to:
http://<email address hidden>/msg05572.html

And in fact, as I should have noticed from the dump, it is not related to iscsi shutting down, but the daemon starting up without being able to re-connect to the existing targets. This means it will also crash if I start the iscsi daemon independent of any upgrade (confirmed, when doing /etc/init.d/open-iscsi start, I loose root).

Apparently fixed in a later version...
