After today's (Fri Aug 13 20:38:27 UTC 2010) upgrade it works after adding ignoreABI to xorg.conf, when running without it it shows message

[ 20.253] (EE) NVIDIA: Use the -ignoreABI option to override this check.

Don't know if update was from main repos or from http://ppa.launchpad.net/nvidia-vdpau/ppa/ubuntu , sorry about that.
