Same bug here for my GeForce4 Ti 4200 Go AGP 8x laptop requiring nvidia-96. I don't care with 3D, I switched to Gnome-Session-Fallback, but even with no-effects, the nouveau driver just displays rubish on my screen. They have a 100-14-11 driver at nVidia for legacy video cards.
