That warning (bug 1857392) is not related to crashes. If you experience crashes then please follow: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Responses#Missing_a_crash_report_or_having_a_.crash_attachment

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
    ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself.

Also next time a crash happens, after rebooting please run:

  journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) → ubuntu
Changed in ubuntu:
status: New → Incomplete
summary: - gnome-shell makes the system crash "Window manager warning: Overwriting
- existing binding of keysym 32 with keysym 32"
+ System crash

Thank you for your response.

Step 1 failed.

Step 2: The content of the whoopsie-id file is daa3b7c3fcdec25d0a60f0f0b5ab13b44165a5df2fccdccbadf44e9b925dc032ab63eddff2a10e2. The Error tracker returns "No errors have been reported from this system"

I'm attaching the text file from journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

I have pretty much the same problem with multiple NVIDIA drivers on PC with nVidia GTX 1050 card, old Gigabyte EP43-DS3 motherboard and Intel Core2 Q9550

Errors in my syslog appear like

Apr 18 23:57:31 hobbs /usr/libexec/gdm-x-session[2294]: (WW) NVIDIA(0): WAIT (1-S, 17, 0x093b, 0x000034d8, 0x00007f28)
Apr 18 23:57:34 hobbs /usr/libexec/gdm-x-session[2294]: (WW) NVIDIA(0): WAIT (2-S, 17, 0x0943, 0x000034d8, 0x00007f64)

Keyboard and mouse lockup (including caps/num lock)

I've gone back to the 470 as I think it happens less frequently with it.

According to this link it looks like the problem was introduced with the 470 drivers and 460 doesn't have the problem https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=369578&start=20

There's a number of posts around the place about the problem, eg https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/display-freezes-ee-nvidia-gpu-0-wait/194940

I don't have reproduction steps but Firefox can often trigger the problem. At times Firefox will also trigger an almost lock up but keyboard can still respond and if I go to a terminal, eg <ctr><f3> and do a killall firefox I can sometimes get the GUI to respond again but sometimes it's a full reboot required.

I ran into this issue today and found that disabling "Above 4G Decoding" and "Resizable BAR Support" in my BIOS stopped all the freezes, gnome-shell crashes, and "... /usr/libexec/gdm-x-session[2294]: (WW) NVIDIA(0): WAIT (..." lines in the journal.

For reference, I have a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite AMD motherboard with an Ryzen 3700X CPU. My GPU is an Nvidia 1660 Super (which definitely does not have support for resizable BAR). When those two options are set to "Auto" I get the freezes and crashes. I had to explicitly disable them.
