1) I removed the "restricted" section from my /etc/apt/sources.list, and updated the apt-cache (or installing 418 it would be impossible)
2) I installed the 418 driver (using the nvidia-driver-418 metapackage). It is the 418.74-0ubuntu0~18.04.1 version which I copied from ppa:oem-solutions-group/nvidia-driver-staging into the following PPA, for easy access (since it was superseded in the original PPA): https://launchpad.net/~albertomilone/+archive/ubuntu/nvidia-select
3) I re-added the "restricted" section in my /etc/apt/sources.list, and updated the apt-cache.
4) I did a dist-upgrade, and I could not reproduce the problem, since the upgrade from 418 to 430 went smoothly.
How can I reproduce the problem?
I tried the following using a clean chroot:
1) I removed the "restricted" section from my /etc/apt/ sources. list, and updated the apt-cache (or installing 418 it would be impossible)
2) I installed the 418 driver (using the nvidia-driver-418 metapackage).
