Daniel,
you could try:
1) get to a root command line interface on boot (hold down the shift key if grub doesn't normally appear)
2A) select recovery, then root login
2B) at the root command line enter: sudo dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-331
OR
1) get to grub (hold down the shift key if grub doesn't normally appear)
2A) select recovery
2B) select failsafe X
3) then,after continuing the boot and then logging in, from a terminal issue the command: sudo dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-331
The reconfigure incantation forces the kernel package to be rebuilt.
YMMV! If your machine still fails to reboot with a working X server, or your kitten cries, or whatever, that's your responsibility!
