I have this bug too. I have seen multiple related problems with Core i-7 processors on x-58 MoBos with newer Nvidia cards, posted in other bugs and forums. Sune Bredahl already mentioned his, but also these forum post:

Many people are saying things were fine under 10.04 including myself. I had some random freezes and weird system slow downs under 10.04, but the slow install, slow system, theme errors, and stuttering in video are all new with 10.10. Could there be an underlying issue with the hardware that is causing all of these problems? My hardware worked fine under 10.04 (mostly) and works fine in windows 7. I think this issue may be part of a bigger problem. Have any of you seen the other bugs described in these forum post?
