I've also been having random freezes in Kubuntu. Most of the time while using Konqueror and Kontact. When I'm not using one of those two, I'm on a console, and I don't remember having a problem while using konsole.

I've installed an OpenSSH server just to check and the fact is that underneath, when accessed via ssh the computer is running just fine. Can't find anything in the logs.

I've tried killing processes one by one from the ssh process. The frozen apps (e.g. konqueror if that's what's on screen) is still on screen even while the process that owns the window is killed.

I've had problems previously with krunner dying and freezing plasma. So I tried not running krunner. No dice.

The frustrating thing with this problem is that I can't even file a meaningful bug report.

I hope my freeze is the same as your freeze.
