Bug Description

Binary package hint: nvidia-glx-177

I am using TV-OUT/SVIDEO on a nvidia GeForce 8600GT. When running glxgears, I get the following error message:

Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".
Error: Couldn't get an RGB, Double-buffered visual

I get the same thing with my 7600GT, but it happens when using any of 96, 173, 177. glxinfo also segfaults in this broken setup (bug 257600).

Looks like this is due to the nvidia install failing. I was switching around between different driver versions in case I had more success. Attached is the relevant part from /var/log/apt/term.log showing the (failed) installation of nvidia-glx-96 from nvidia-glx-173.

This may also be related to bug 262027.
