@giardia: libvdpau1 error now appears on the 96.43.23 that I did. This is due to reinstalling libvdpau1 before the reintall:

Also reinstalled libvdpau1 to get mplayer working again. Thanks for tip.
Reinstalling all of my mesa packages borked my DRI: nux/unity_ support_ test -p i386-linux- gnu/dri/ tls/swrast_ dri.so i386-linux- gnu/dri/ swrast_ dri.so
$ LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose /usr/lib/

Reinstalled 96.43.23 & got DRI (and GL vertex buffer object) back.

I realize what vdpau is used for. However:
