Receiving same issue. Different video cards, same end result. The nVidia GT 260, GT 9500, GT 430, and GT 460 all come back with the same problems. Install from 10.10 runs clean on 32 or 64bit after activating the driver. Upgrade or clean install to 11.04 fails.

Tried doing --reinstall of the drivers after testing with each card. Running Natty with 2.6.38-9 kernel tested 32 & 64bit. Versions tested include Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu (classic desktop as well). Didn't expect any major differences between the different desktops, but thought it should be included for completeness. Renaming /etc/X11/xorg.conf allows to boot as well as low-graphics mode from recovery.

Motherboard this is on uses the Gigabyte MA78GM-US2H v1.0.
