I have a system where Unity is running nicely using nvidia "current", but jockey-gtk reports "This driver is activated but not currently in use". The problem can also be seen using the text interface:

 $ jockey-text -l
xorg:nvidia_current - NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (Proprietary, Enabled, Not in use)
