Comment 115 for bug 771788

I tried manually installing the proprietary nvidia drivers several weeks ago using the instructions on the nvidia website for dealing with the nouveau problem. It did not improve things much and failed several days later and the only way I could get 3d back up was to reinstall the proprietary drivers through jockey. The fail makes me suspect that part of the nouveau weed effect may be driven by system updates to related parts of the system (apt wanting to uninstall so much along with nouveau throws even more suspicion here). Is there a detailed log of updates somewhere on the system that could show a dependency interaction? I have a bad habit of letting update run on its own without watching exactly what it is happening at every step along the way as long as the update notes seem reasonable.
