Binary package hint: ntpdate
If you have ntp and ntpdate installted, it is recommended you uninstall ntpdate, however you cannot uninstall ntpdate without uninstalling ubuntu-minimal which is not recommended.

Yes, I can confirm that problem for Xubuntu/Ubuntu 8.04 HH. I'd rather use "ntpdate" on our clients and "ntp" on the Ubuntu 8.04 server. Unfortunately I cannot uninstall the package ntp on Xubuntu 8.04 because of several dependencies like "gnome- system- tools" (clock). Uninstalling ntpdate isn't possible as well since I have to keep it for "ubuntu-minimal" as described by Mr. Hall. I recommend to solve this once and forever by giving clients the choice to either run ntp or ntpdate and force servers to run the ntp package only.
