Yes, I can confirm that problem for Xubuntu/Ubuntu 8.04 HH. I'd rather use "ntpdate" on our clients and "ntp" on the Ubuntu 8.04 server. Unfortunately I cannot uninstall the package ntp on Xubuntu 8.04 because of several dependencies like "gnome-system-tools" (clock). Uninstalling ntpdate isn't possible as well since I have to keep it for "ubuntu-minimal" as described by Mr. Hall. I recommend to solve this once and forever by giving clients the choice to either run ntp or ntpdate and force servers to run the ntp package only.

What I found indicates someone already realized that problem. Nevertheless I still think we need to find a way to avoid using two packages on a client or server when one is sufficient.

It's not a problem, however removing ntpdate will still remove
ubuntu-minimal...which is not recommended. Really, I don't see why these are
so tied together. I understnad ntpdate relying on ubuntu-minimal, but the
reverse should not be true.
