Sorry, I only want to help :) But I'm with you.
I want to note that the "auto ..." line is inserted automatically by
network-admin if you use that tool to configure your network. This is why I have
the "auto ..." line in my /etc/network/interfaces. I don't know if this is a
network-admin issue.
