Confirmed. This solution works perfectly for me (I tried to boot many many times :))
I think the "auto ..." line must be in the /etc/network/interfaces file by
default, maybe introduced during installation by the installer.
For the Hoary -> Breezy update, there could be a package which does this change
in e/n/i.
