This is still happening on Natty. I wanted to use a VM with VMWare Player that was saved on my NTFS partition. It was totally unuseable, I noticed the mount.ntfs-3g consumed all the CPU. I moved the VM to my ext4 drive and it is now flying. Both partitions are on the same disk and I had mounted the ntfs with the following:
