This is a drama. I get really sad reading all this. This thread more then proves that there is a bug in notify-osd. Even if it is correct by the orginal design, this is still a bug. In that case we speak of a usability bug. Please fix it and stop sending people away from Ubuntu. Just because you cannot omit to a all-in-all small mistake. The biggest mistake of all being that we are not even allowed to vote on the matter. When people are given power however small and however well intended they are they will at some point abuse that power. That's what the ubuntu-dev's are doing here. This thread really goes through my heart. It rattles and shakes my believe in the Open Source philosophy.

In conclusion use the PPA... And keep a eye out for an other distribution.
