I do not believe this is a NetworkManager issue.
My interfaces file says:
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
and my /etc/NetworkMan
[main]
plugins=
dns=dnsmasq
[ifupdown]
managed=false
However I still have this exact same issue as reported above: after booting ypwhich says "ypwhich: Can't communicate with ypbind", and it works after I restart ypbind.
