Same problems here with ralink 2500:

# uname -a
Linux higgs 2.6.20-15-generic #2 SMP Sun Apr 15 06:17:24 UTC 2007 x86_64 GNU/Linux

# lsmod | grep rt2
rt2500 202088 1

So that would be the old driver i guess.
