I've came across this bug when trying to solve a problem with similar characteristics to this one (i.e. netwok dropouts). Installing the patched network-manager caused to interface to fail to configure itself (we got eth0, but no IP address from the wireless router). It seems that disabling IPv6 by editing /etc/modprobe.d/aliases has solved the problem for me.

I'm using the ipw2200 driver.
Same problem, or unrelated issue?
