I think that my problem is related to yours. Since my re-installation of Ubuntu Karmic yesterday I cannot connect to my wireless network which is WPA encrypted too. An older installation with the same set of packages (even the version numbers are equal) worked quite nice. Thus I am a little bit surprised.
What we have in common is the wireless adapter. Maybe a problem with the driver?
