Both the live Karmic Beta1 CD and full install also fail to detect the network adapter. Booting back to 9.04, the adapter works fine. FWIW, about 2 months after 9.04 was release a network update caused similar issues-card was not detected after reboot. A patch was quickly applied and posted in the proposed fixes and the wireless adapter started working again.
