Personally, I think the energy would be better spent and the effort better divided if we focus on fixing the resolv.conf generating code in network-manager.

If this issue was fixed, we might even be able to include the three vpn plugins from the networkmanager CVS. I've already packaged them for myself but they depend on a patched version of networkmanager to work properly, so there really hasn't been any point in uploading them to the universe.
