I am facing the exact same problem on a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.04 desktop.

The DNS resolution was fixed by adding an OpenDNS server to the nameserver list. It resolves the domain names quickly, but then download just hangs in between.

I've tried downloading using 'wget' and the issue remains the same.

The NetworkManager->Connection Information dialog shows using the driver: sky2
