This is interesting,

I have been experiencing the same issue with pretty much every single version since Karmic. And today I have tried to connect to the network without logging in gnome. I have gone to a virtual console (CTRL+ALT+F1 instead of typing the user and pass in GDM) and set up everything a la old school (iwconfig, dhclient,) after booting up and my connection is rock solid for the last hour. Usually it' d take 3 min to disconnect.

I though it might help people to track down where the issue is coming from.
