I installed from the PPA repository the folowing packages

network-manager 0.7~~svn20081018t105859-0ubuntu2~nm4
libnm-glib0 0.7~~svn20081018t105859-0ubuntu2~nm4
libnm-util0 0.7~~svn20081018t105859-0ubuntu2~nm4
libmbca0 0.0.3~bzr42-0ubuntu3~nm1

And the problem disappeared at the first connection after the login and
also on subsequently disabling/enabling the wireless adapter.
