Milan: I don't think it has anything to do with lo. The problem is that unless I boot straight into KDE, NetworkManager wont run. That is, if I log into GNOME and then switch to KDE => no network ==> no KDE. On the other hand if I go straight into KDE then I can connect with no problem. Isn't this the behaviour you have been experiencing?
And, the problem is that nm-applet is not running and yet I cannot run it to get online.
