Paul Perkins, this bug has already been fixed in the latest version of NetworkManager, but it is not available officially for Ubuntu 8.10 yet.
I don't know and I don't understand why, but it's not.

If you want an official patch, you'll have to wait. If you don't care about installing alternative patches, so follow these instructions Alexander Sack provided:
"for those eager to get final NM 0.7, you can get an intrepid build for
it from the ~network-manager PPA."
