Bug Description

This is a Linksys wireless-G 2.4GHz Notebook Adapter. It has worked well for my friend using Xubuntu Gutsy and Hardy. Upgrading to Intrepid, the card no longer connects to the network. I can make multiple sudo dhclient requests and the second or third attempt will create a temporary connection. I may then browse to one web site or initiate one ssh session, then the connection stops working...the pid continues to run. I kill it; make another dhclient request, and get another one-time use...and so on.

The machine is an older HP pavillion ze1110 laptop. Booting with options acpi=off seems best.

The following is a section from dmesg. Please let me know if i can provide more information.
I have tried: sudo modprobe pcmcia && sudo modprobe pcmcia_core. Also sudo modprobe -v --first-time pcnet_cs.

Recent updates have resulted in a consistent network connection, though the network monitor is not working and displays no connection...I do have a connection. During boot: starting network manager ok, then starting network manager fail.
Shutting down is a major problem...firstly it goes to the session splash screen instead of shutting down...then I have to choose shutdown...then confirm that I want to shutdown...Then some problem with network manager results in the command line freezing at system halted....and I have to press the power button again.

Thanks for reporting this bug. Is this now a duplicate of bug #279737, Network Manager Applet shows "No Network Connection" when all devices in unmanaged mode (managed=true) ?

Again, thanks for helping.

I am not entirely sure. Occasionally, the kernel message is: wlan0: duplicate address detected!
And no connection is established. I have to manually bring down the interface then request a new address.

Confirmed based on the last comments. There should be enough information for the developers to begin work on this bug. Thanks for helping.

Exactly same problem with a Dlink AirplusG+ DWL-G650+ wifi pccard involving an ACX111 chipset.
Using Xubuntu 8.10 Intrepid with kernel: 2.6.27-9-generic #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 21:57:00 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux
The firmware installed by default in /lib/firmware/acx/default is not the same one than
in previous Ubuntu version 8.04.
I recopy the old firmware to get exactly the same one than in 8.04 and reboot. Now the laptop
don't hang anymore after some minutes. The board is still activated, but the network does not work more.

The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Precise Pangolin. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

We really need to know if this has been fixed in any release later than Ubuntu 8.10. The currently supported releases are (X)Ubuntu 10.04, 10.10, 11.10, and the development release, Precise Pangolin
