I don't know if this can help in any way, but I manage to make it work my computer with the FON AP (wpa) simply rebooting the router everytime. I mean, if the router is fresh rebooted, the connection goes fine; otherwise the behavior is the same descripted in other comments.

Maybe in the association time the router generates an integer to chyper stuff; if it is too high, then the computer doesn't understand (and keeps asking password).
