Playing with the settings of my wireless router, I found that no connection can be established when the wireless network is hidden. In open mode it takes a long time to get the network working. The attached syslog documents a test sequence that is reproducible:

- During restart the wireless network is set to open mode; Network Manager tries to connect (syslog time 12:42:46), fails (12:45:16) and tries a second time with success (12:45:56).

- Then I switch the wireless network to hidden mode (12:49:59), Network Manager looses the connection, but the connection is reestablished shortly after.

- I then disable wireless with a right click on the Network Manager applet (12:50:50) and enable it again (12:51:03). The network is found, but Network Manager is not able to fully set up the connection and asks for the password after a while. I cancel the password dialog (12:54:20).

The network uses WPA-PSK security, my computer has an Atheros AR5221 802.11abg wireless device and uses the ath_pci driver with Intrepid, Linux 2.6.27-7 and the PPA Package (sorry for some wrong information about the device in an earlier posting). Hidden mode wireless with WPA-PSK was working with Hardy, hidden mode with no security or WEP is working with Intrepid.
