I got the same problem (at least same symptoms) here while I was suspending and waking the computer repeatedly for figuring out what was causing some other (very unrelated) bug. I kept on giving network manager the password and it kept on asking for it again and again. I rebooted and it still asked again and again and again. I rebooted a second time and still the same problem. So, I did this:
$ sudo pkill nm-applet
$ sudo nm-applet
And now it is working for me. However, I read that this didn't work for BUGabundo (see his? comment above).
I am using Intrepid 64 bit on a Core 2, with a Broadcom 4328 wireless card (NOT INTEL). What happened to me may be yet another unrelated bug in Ubuntu.
Is it just me or is Intrepid overly buggy. I didn't have any such problems with Gutsy (what I was using before on the same hardware).
