When mine are duplicated, both ethernet and wifi get duplicated in hal:
supermario@ mlimonciello: ~$ hal-find- by-capability --capability net.80203 p/Hal/devices/ net_00_ 1c_23_17_ 13_9c_0 p/Hal/devices/ net_00_ 1c_23_17_ 13_9c

/org/freedeskto
supermario@ mlimonciello: ~$ hal-find- by-capability --capability net.80211 p/Hal/devices/ net_00_ 1c_bf_44_ 4f_ed_1 p/Hal/devices/ net_00_ 1c_bf_44_ 4f_ed
/org/freedeskto

Restarting HAL solves the problem:
$ sudo /etc/init.d/hal restart
[sudo] password for supermario:
* Restarting Hardware abstraction layer hald [
OK ]
supermario@ mlimonciello: ~$ hal-find- by-capability --capability net.80211 p/Hal/devices/ net_00_ 1c_bf_44_ 4f_ed
/org/freedeskto
