There are lots of reasons why we don't use gvfs mounts.

I am using a NAS and want the mounts to be there automatically on login. With gvfs mounts I have to go in an "activate" them each time.

I use an rsync script for backing up from my NAS to an external hard disk drive and want to have defined mount points for that to work.

There's no easy way to mount the smb shares from my NAS to a point that I want on my filesystem, without using fstab entries.
