A few days have passed but my installation still has issues. It didn't occur in Debian 9 or Debian Testing but it does in Ubuntu 17.10 and Ubuntu 17.04. Strange.

As a workaround I'll use my phone as an external wireless network adapter (connected through USB) so I can at least suspend/reboot/shutdown my device normally.
