PS: I used to have intermittent network drops in ubuntu 14.04 which is why I upgraded from LTS to 15.04 in the first place.

I used to workaround the problem by restarting the network-manager via

sudo service network-manager stop
sudo service network-manager start

This workaround has stopped working, which makes the current form of the problem more serious IMHO.
