I have a Thinkpad T60 with Kubuntu Gutsy just installed and fully updated. I cannot connect to my college's unsecured wireless network unless I use the RF kill-switch on the front to toggle the device off and then on again while it attempts to connect. According to daemon.log (which I have attached), it fails because it takes too long and times out.
