Can confirm my experience also matches #23 and #48 on up-to-date 9.04. This time with network-manager-pptp.

I installed the plugin, configured the connection, tried to connect and got the "no valid secrets" GUI message. Rebooted after reading this and then on connection got the keyring message and everything was fine.
