I recently upgraded to Jaunty and can now confirm the bug (I didn't have it in Intrepid). I establish the VPN connection (TAP or TUN does not matter) and am able to ping the VPN LAN. But I was no more able to ping the Internet. Each time I established a VPN connection I manually added my default gw and it worked like a charm.

Thanks to Daniel for the workaround. It works out for me, too.
